Our Story

MHP was formed in 2011 when Ian, Phil and Miguel first pedalled down to Regents Park for a couple of (very) gentle laps.

Today the club is affiliated to British Cycling, offers a host of regular rides at different tempos, and boasts a number of local legends. It aspires to be welcoming and inclusive, and has a strong post-ride coffee game.

The club is loosely based around Northern Heights Bikes, run by Ian Gray, who could have been one of the greats if he’d been faster.

To join, visit our Become a Member page. Alternatively come along on one of our Sunday rides and see if we’re for you.

For an annual fee of £20 you will have access to the benefits of club membership, which include regular club rides, access to purchase club kit, access to special events (e.g. trips to the velodrome), social events and discounts at Northern Heights Bikes and other local stores.

Club ethos

We exist because we love cycling.

The club was started by a handful of riders a decade ago. Over the years it has grown steadily, and evolved in the process. We have always liked the club to be about relaxed cycling and enjoyment. However, there are some basic principles which help to keep us, and other road users safe, and which have maintained a happy state of affairs over the past 10 years.

Adhere to the rules of the road. Do not jump red lights. Do not ride on the pavement. Be courteous at all times. Use lights when conditions suggest it is sensible. When cycling in a group, try to call out potholes or other types of potential hazards. Look out for each other at all times.

We aim to be inclusive - we are passionate about cycling but not elitist. We welcome everyone and will nurture and encourage less experienced riders.

We do not tolerate racism, sexism, ageism, or any other form of discrimination.
